On January 7, 2024, at approximately 10:44 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a hit-and-run collision involving two vehicles in the intersection of McKee Road and Francis Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling southbound on Francis Drive when it travelled through the intersection against a red light, and proceeded westbound on McKee Road in the eastbound lane. The pickup truck struck a 2004 Buick Rendezvous occupied by an adult male driver who was traveling eastbound on McKee Road.
After the collision, the pickup truck proceeded westbound on McKee Road in the wrong direction and eventually was located off the shoulder of Berryessa Road after colliding with a tree.
The driver of the Buick Rendezvous sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
On April 1, 2024, the driver of the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck succumbed to injuries sustained from the collisions.
This is the 13th fatal collision and 13th traffic death of 2024.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
