On May 27, 2024, at approximately 6:04 PM, Patrol Officers responded to a report of a possible shooting at a residence in the 300 block of North 20th Street. Multiple reporting parties called police to report hearing gunshots and a disturbance. When Officers arrived, they saw evidence of a crime at the front door and an adult male retreated into the residence and barricaded. Special operations personnel responded to the scene and eventually negotiated with the suspect to surrender after a significant standoff.
Officers searched the residence and located a deceased adult female with signs of physical trauma.
The San José Police Department Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
Detectives learned that the suspect had fired a handgun at a separate adult male victim prior to police arrival. The adult male victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
The suspect will be identified in the coming days. The suspect and victims were known to each other and Detectives are determining how they are related.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This is the City's 16th homicide of 2024.
