National Night Out

Tuesday, August 6, 2024

National Night Out is an annual crime prevention event that promotes community building and police-community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer. National Night Out is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the San José Police Department.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, neighborhoods throughout the city of San José are asked to join in this community building event to strengthen neighborhood spirit, and build positive relationships with the San José Police Department. Join millions across the nation for National Night Out by planning an event with your neighbors! Light up your street and spend the evening with your community and local law enforcement agencies.

REGISTRATION IS FREE! Don't forget to register by or before Sunday, July 21, 2024. You do not have to be a current Neighborhood Watch group to participate. National Night Out is for everyone! You can register your local event for your neighborhood through the SJPD National Night Out Online Registration Form.

Once your neighborhood is registered, we will add your event to our list of National Night Out event sites to visit during the evening. We make every effort to visit as many events as time and circumstances permit. But we can't visit if you do not register!

Plan early, especially if permits for your event are necessary. Please note that some permits have separate and much earlier deadlines:

If your event will be open to the public and food will be served, please contact: The County of Santa Clara, Department of Environmental Health, Consumer Protection Division by calling (408) 918-3400 or by visiting www.EHinfo.org. Department of Environmental Health (DEH) permit applications must be submitted by Tuesday, July 23, 2024. However, if you would like DEH to invoice for the permit fees, submit the applications to them by Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Based on review of the application and the menu, DEH may issue an Authorization letter in lieu of the permits for low-risk food distribution (e.g., pre-packaged foods).

If your event will be held at a city park, please contact: The City of San José, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, Special Park Use Unit by calling (408) 794-6500, and/or emailing SPUapplications@sanjoseca.gov. Park permit applications must be submitted by Sunday, July 21, 2024. If you register your NNO event online with SJPD, all fees for special park use will be waived.

If your event will require closing or blocking a public street, please contact: The San José Police Department, Permits Unit by calling (408) 277-4452, and/or emailing sjpdpermits@sanjoseca.gov. You can find the SJPD Online Permit Application on our website. Please note that in-person applications are no longer being accepted. Street Closure/Block Party permit applications must be submitted by Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Please visit our SJPD National Night Out webpage for details about registration and other event information. For any further questions about your event, please contact the SJPD Crime Prevention Unit at (408) 277-4133 and speak with any of our National Night Out Planning Team staff members.

Remember this evening is a night to create positive and long-lasting memories with your neighbors, so just have fun! We look forward to meeting you and your neighbors at your National Night Out event this year!

together we are safer
