On June 29, 2024, at approximately 2:26 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of McKee Road and Francis Drive for a report of a solo vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2022 red Subaru sedan, occupied by an adult female driver and adult male passenger, was traveling west bound on McKee Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled over the center median across all eastbound lanes leaving the roadway on the south curb of McKee Road. The vehicle then went through a fence and collided into the second story of a residence. The residence was evacuated and none of the residents were injured.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was taken into custody at the hospital for the crime of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
This is the 23rd fatal collision and 23rd traffic death of 2024.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
