MEDIA ADVISORY
Today, the San José Police Department is announcing the launch of a new National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) crime statistics dashboard.
Beginning in April 2023, the San Jose Police Department began submitting NIBRS data to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. NIBRS is a more comprehensive system with increased and diverse crime data, allowing the Department to collect more accurate, detailed crime statistics while simultaneously providing meaningful data for addressing public safety. This data is published statically on the Department’s website on a monthly basis and has now been compiled into an interactive dashboard that can be refined in different ways. Viewers can filter by time period and crime type to perform trend analyses.
This dashboard has been created by the Crime Analysis Unit using Microsoft’s Power BI and is located on the Department’s consolidated web page of dashboards, providing community members a one-stop shop to review and leverage important statistical data. This intelligence application turns data into coherent and insightful visuals via charts, graphs, and tables. Members of the public can now access up-to-date NIBRS crime statistics, in addition to the currently available Police Response Time, FBI Uniform Crime Report Hate Crime, and the FBI Uniform Crime Report dashboards.
