SJPD Arrests Suspect for Possession of a Destructive Device

On July 3, 2024, at approximately 10:06 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a bomb threat at a business in the 1300 Block of Ridder Park Drive.  The suspect called police to report that he had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) behind the business. When Officers arrived, they located a suspicious device that appeared to be an IED. The SJPD Special Operations Bomb Squad and MERGE Unit responded to the scene to access the item and determined the item to be an incomplete but viable IED. The Bomb Squad rendered the device safe and began a meticulous search of the area for additional devices, however, none were found.  

During the course of the investigation, MERGE Officers later identified the primary suspect as Felix Arnaz. 

Detectives from the SJPD Assaults Unit responded to the scene and began a thorough investigation into the incident. Later that day, MERGE Officers located Suspect Arnaz in his vehicle in the area of Ruby Avenue and Aborn Road and successfully took the suspect into custody. As a precaution, nearby businesses were evacuated while bomb squad officers cleared the vehicle, which did not yield any additional devices. 

The suspect was later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for multiple charges related to the possession of a destructive device.
