On June 15, 2024, at approximately 7:06 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of 2100 Oakland Road for a report of a solo vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2012 gray Hyundai SUV, occupied by an adult female driver, was traveling in an unknown direction on Oakland Road when it struck a tree in the center median near 2100 Oakland Road. Witnesses observed the driver flee the scene of the collision. Officers responded to the vehicle's registered owner's residence and were unsuccessful in locating the registered owner at that time. 

On June 17, 2024, at approximately 9:51 PM, Officers responded to a report of a death investigation at the registered owner's residence. The registered owner of the vehicle was located deceased inside her residence by family members. At the time, the investigation of this death was actively ongoing to determine if the collision was a factor to the death. 

On August 12, 2024, the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office notified the Traffic Investigation Unit the accident was deemed to have been a significant factor in the cause of death. 

This is the 31st fatal collision and 31st traffic death of 2024. 

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
