On June 27, 2024, at approximately 9:54 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in a business parking lot located in the 2600 block of Alum Rock Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had gotten into an altercation earlier in the day with three unknown adult male suspects. After parting ways, the suspects searched for the victim and eventually located him at the above location and attacked him with machetes.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for major but non-life threatening injuries.

SJPD Assaults Unit Detectives began a thorough investigation and identified three suspects: Juan Ramirez, Eddie Herena, and Raul Moreno. Suspect Herena was convicted for a 2005 homicide that occurred in the city of San José and was recently released from prison in 2018.
Detectives obtained arrest warrants for all three suspects and a search warrant for suspect Herena's residence.
On September 10, 2024, suspect Herena was located and arrested in the city of Martinez, and suspect Ramirez was located and arrested in the city of San José.
On September 11, 2024, suspect Moreno was located and arrested in the city of San José.
All three suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder.
"These suspects sought out their victim and knew they wanted to take a life," stated Acting Chief of Police Paul Joseph. "Violent criminals have no place in our community and I am grateful our Detectives acted swiftly to put these suspects behind bars."
