On September 12, 2024, at approximately 8:00 AM, the San José Police Department received a report of an elder fraud. The elderly victim received a virus notification on his computer directing him to call a phone number. The person answering the phone directed the victim to mail over $1,000 to fix the issue.
San José Police Department’s Financial Crimes Fraud Detectives immediately began an investigation and were able to intercept the suspect, Liqun Fan, in possession of the package containing the money.
Suspect Fan was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for possession of stolen property.
