On September 9, 2024, at approximately 9:05 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of 1st Street and Gish Road for a report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2006 gray GMC Sierra pick up truck, occupied by an adult male driver, an adult male passenger, an adult female passenger and a juvenile male passenger was traveling south bound on 1st Street. The pick up truck ran through a red traffic signal at the intersection with Gish Road and collided broadside with a 2021 white Ford Explorer, occupied by an adult male driver and two juvenile passengers, that was traveling west bound on Gish Road through a green traffic signal.

All occupants inside of the involved vehicles were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. The adult female passenger inside the GMC pick up truck sustained life threatening injuries, but later stabilized. 

On October 1, 2024, the adult female passenger succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. 

This is the 40th fatal collision and 40th traffic death of 2024. 

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
