On October 1, 2024, at approximately 6:31 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of South 5th Street and East San Fernando Street for a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2018 silver Nissan Sentra sedan, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling eastbound on East San Fernando Street when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was crossing East San Fernando Street in a marked crosswalk.
The adult female pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was later stabilized.
The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
On October 4, 2024, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 41st fatal collision and 41st traffic death of 2024. This is also the 15th pedestrian death of 2024.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
