SJPD Investigating Homicide #27

On November 4, 2024, at approximately 5:03 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of North Capitol Avenue and Berryessa Road. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim pinned under a minivan. The pedestrian was neither conscious nor breathing, and was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The unknown driver fled the scene prior to police arrival.

During the preliminary investigation, Officers determined the collision to be intentional and identified the suspect driver as Edward Herrera.

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives began a thorough investigation and discovered that the suspect and victim were known to each other. Patrol Officers located suspect Herrera on the same day in the city of San José and booked him into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This is the City's 27th homicide of 2024.
