On November 18, 2024, at approximately 8:44 PM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the area of Bird Avenue and Hull Avenue for a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2019 red Chevy Tahoe, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling northbound on Bird Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was standing in the roadway attempting to clear a large tree branch from the roadway.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
At the time of the collision, the driver of the Chevy Tahoe also struck the large tree branch and left the scene to seek medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries related to the collision. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver was unaware he had struck a pedestrian. Alcohol or drugs were also not involved or a factor in the collision.
This is the 45th fatal collision and 45th traffic death of 2024. This is also the 18th pedestrian death of 2024.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
