Between November of 2023 to October of 2024, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to multiple thefts that occurred at a business located in the 700 block of Ridder Park Drive. Investigators from the SJPD Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Detail began investigating the string of thefts. The thefts resulted in thousands of dollars worth of merchandise loss. 

ORT investigators identified Freddy Spore as the suspect. With the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.

On February 17, 2025, Officers assisting the ORT Detail located and apprehend Suspect Spore in the city of San José. The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for crimes related to grand theft.

The San José Police Department was awarded an $8.49 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections to combat Organized Retail Theft in the City of San José. The SJPD Organized Retail Theft Detail dedicates a portion of their funding to deploy specialized officers, on an overtime basis, to follow-up on cases and apprehend these criminals responsible for committing the thefts throughout the city.
