On May 11, 2025, at approximately 5:38 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a person down outside a business located in the 100 Block of Old Tully Road. The reporting party called police to report an unconscious male outside of the business that appeared to be bleeding. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim who was bleeding and had visible signs of being assaulted. The victim was transported to a local hospital where his injuries were believed to be non-life threatening. Patrol Officers conducted a thorough investigation and learned the victim had been physically assaulted and robbed.
During the course of the investigation, Officers identified the primary suspect as Eugene Pickett, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On May 12, 2025, Officers located and arrested suspect Pickett in the city of San José. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for numerous crimes including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and elder abuse.
On May 13, 2025, SJPD was notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The SJPD Homicide Unit immediately began following up and is investigating the incident. Later that day, Homicide Detectives obtained a new arrest warrant for the suspect for the crime of murder and served it at the jail where the suspect remained in custody.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
This was the City's 9th homicide of 2025.
