National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual crime prevention event that promotes community building and police-community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer. National Night Out is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the San José Police Department.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, neighbors are asked to join the effort to strengthen neighborhood spirit by participating in an evening of community-building events throughout the city of San José. Join millions across the nation for National Night Out by planning an event with your neighbors!
REGISTRATION IS FREE!
- Plan early, especially if permits for your event are necessary.
- You do not have to be a current Neighborhood Watch group to participate.
- Don’t forget to register by, or before, Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The San José Police Department is a nationally registered participant in this year's event. National Night Out is for everyone! You can register your local event for your neighborhood by visiting www.sjpd.org, online registration.
Once your neighborhood is registered, we will add your event to our list of NNO event sites to visit during the evening. We make every effort to visit as many events as time and circumstances permit. But we can't visit if you do not register!
Please note that some permits have separate and much earlier deadlines.

- Department of Environmental Health permit applications must be submitted by Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
However, if you would like DEH to invoice for the permit fees, submit the applications to them by Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Based on review of the application and the menu, DEH may issue an Authorization letter in lieu of the permits for low-risk food distribution (e.g., pre-packaged foods).

Please note, if you register your NNO event online with SJPD, all fees for special park use will be waived. For more information, please contact the City of San José, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, Special Park Use Unit.

- Street Closure (Block Party) permit applications must be submitted by Sunday, July 13, 2025.
