On June 16, 2025, the San José Police Department Metro Unit executed a search warrant at a storage facility located in the 200 block of W Capitol Expressway as part of an ongoing enforcement effort targeting the illegal sale and possession of fireworks. The operation was conducted in anticipation of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday and aimed at reducing fire risk and unlawful activity citywide.

As part of the investigation, SJPD officers conducted undercover operations in which they posed as buyers to identify individuals selling commercial-grade fireworks and destructive devices. These efforts led to the identification of a male suspect, Javier Martinez.

At approximately 6:00 PM, Officers executed the search warrant and detained suspect Martinez without incident. Officers from SJPD’s Metro Unit, Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET), Street Crimes Unit, and Patrol Division assisted with securing the suspect’s vehicle and the associated storage locker. The search resulted in the recovery of approximately 1,320 pounds of dangerous fireworks and explosives, which were collected and booked into evidence.

Suspect Martinez was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple felony charges related to the possession, sale, and transportation of destructive devices and illegal fireworks.
