On August 3, 2025, at approximately10:55 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Payne Avenue and Winchester Boulevard. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2018 black Chevy truck, occupied by an adult male driver and adult male passenger, was traveling westbound on Payne Avenue just west of Winchester Boulevard, when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing Payne Avenue outside of any marked crosswalk. 

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

This is the 20th fatal collision and 20th traffic death of 2025. This is also the 10th pedestrian death of 2025.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
