On July 20, 2025, at approximately 12:51 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 90 Block of South 2nd Street in the city of San José for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim suffering from at least one stab wound. Officers immediately began life saving measures and summoned paramedics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The unknown suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. 

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified Mercedes Rosales and Micaela Van as the primary suspects. Detectives obtained arrest warrants and search warrants for the suspect's and their associated residences. 

On August 5, 2025, Homicide Unit Detectives, with assistance from the Covert Response Unit (CRU) and the Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET), located and apprehended Suspect Rosales and Suspect Van in the city of San José. Both suspects were transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail, where Suspect Rosales was booked for murder and Suspect Van was booked as an accessory to murder.

This incident was the City's 15th homicide of 2025.
