On August 27, 2025, at approximately 7:13 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a collision involving a bicycle and a pedestrian in the area of Ocala Avenue and Berona Way in the city of San José. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A blue 16-speed Centurion bicycle, operated by an adult male rider, was traveling westbound on Ocala Avenue in the bike lane, when it struck an adult female pedestrian walking/jogging westbound in the westbound bike lane of Ocala Ave.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and later stabilized.
The operator of the bicycle remained on scene. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for suspicion of DUI on a bicycle causing injury and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
On September 3, 2025, the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit was notified that the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on September 2, 2025.
This is the 23rd fatal collision and 23rd traffic death of 2025. This is also the 13th pedestrian death of 2025.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
