SJPD Arrests Suspect for Assault

On September 2, 2025, at approximately 5:30 PM, Officers responded to a report of a brandishing of a firearm in the area of W. San Carlos Street and Leland Avenue in San José. Upon arrival, Officers learned a suspect chased an unhoused victim with a firearm, pushed him to the ground, and brandished a firearm. It was reported that the suspect was wearing a silver badge on his belt and appeared to be law enforcement or security. The victim did not suffer any injuries. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. Officers on scene identified a potential suspect.

San José Police Department Assaults Unit Detectives began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified Demont Taylor as the primary suspect and discovered he was working as a security guard for a security company based out of San José. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and an Emergency Gun Violence Protection Order for the suspect, as well as a search warrant for his associated residence.

On September 11, 2025, Detectives, with the assistance of the Special Operations MERGE Unit, located and apprehended Suspect Taylor in the city of San José. Suspect Taylor was subsequently served with the Gun Violence Protection Order and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for crimes related to assault with a deadly weapon.
