On October 8, 2025, at approximately 5:35 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Monterey Road and Rancho Drive for a report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2007 silver Ford sedan, driven by an adult female, was traveling westbound on Rancho Drive and making a left turn onto southbound Monterey Road, when it collided with a 2013 blue BMW coupe, traveling northbound on Monterey Road. The BMW was occupied by an adult male driver and an adult male passenger.
The force of the impact caused the BMW to strike the center divide and come to rest in the southbound lanes of Monterey Road.
Both drivers were transported to local hospitals with major injuries that were later determined to be non-life-threatening. The BMW passenger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite life saving efforts, the passenger succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Ford’s driver was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. The case will be forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and criminal filing consideration.
This incident is being investigated as the city's 28th fatal collision and 28th traffic death of 2025.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
